As a floral designer, few things bring me more joy than helping couples transform their wedding day into a deeply personal and visually stunning experience. When Alex and Jack approached me to create their dream wedding florals at the beautiful Pelham House Lewes, I knew we were about to embark on an incredible journey together. Their vision, the venue, and their unique style presented a wonderful opportunity to bring their love story to life through flowers. Today, I’m excited to take you behind the scenes and share how we crafted a magical setting for Alex and Jack’s wedding day.

About Alex & Jack

From the moment I met Alex and Jack, it was clear they were a couple who valued both design and experience. They had a strong desire to create a wedding that felt personal and magical, not just for themselves but for their guests. For them, the flowers played a central role in achieving this vision. They wanted florals that would captivate, transport, and delight their guests from the moment they arrived at the venue.

However, like many busy couples, Alex and Jack had demanding careers and full lives outside of wedding planning. They wanted to enjoy the process of planning their wedding without getting bogged down by stress or overwhelm. That’s where the trust factor came in. They needed a florist they could rely on to take their ideas and run with them, knowing that every detail would be executed to perfection.

My goal was to give them the peace of mind they craved, allowing them to focus on the joy of their engagement without constantly worrying about the details. From the initial consultation, I made sure they felt supported and heard. I took the time to understand their unique style, vision, and priorities, translating all of it into a seamless floral experience. As a result, they were able to fully enjoy the wedding planning process while I brought their floral dreams to life.

Pelham House Lewes: The Perfect Venue for a Stylish, Modern Wedding

Pelham House in Lewes is a truly special venue for weddings. Set in the heart of the picturesque Sussex countryside, it combines the charm of historic architecture with modern luxury and style. It’s the kind of place that feels intimate and grand all at once, making it the perfect backdrop for couples who appreciate timeless elegance with a contemporary edge.

Pelham House is known for its stunning Georgian features, manicured gardens, and chic interiors, which lend themselves beautifully to sophisticated and romantic weddings. The venue offers a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, giving couples endless possibilities for how they want to stage their big day. From the picturesque outdoor ceremony setting to the stunning reception spaces, Pelham House exudes an effortless sophistication that attracts couples who want a stylish, relaxed wedding with plenty of character.

Alex and Jack chose Pelham House for exactly these reasons. They loved the elegant, yet unpretentious vibe of the venue and knew it would set the tone for the kind of wedding they wanted—stylish, fun, and full of personal touches. They also appreciated the versatility of the space, particularly the opportunity to hold their ceremony outdoors and use the iconic Goring Room for their reception. As their Sussex wedding florist, I knew we could use flowers designed in the Bloominati design style to enhance the venue’s natural beauty while adding layers of personality that would reflect who Alex and Jack are as a couple.

Planning a Personalised Floral Experience for Pelham House Lewes

From our very first consultation, it was clear that Alex and Jack wanted their wedding flowers to be more than just decoration—they wanted them to tell a story. They both had a clear idea of what they liked and, more importantly, what they didn’t. Alex gravitated towards soft, muted pastel colours, but with a modern twist that avoided anything too sweet or saccharine.

Together, we crafted a floral concept that perfectly reflected their personalities. They were a couple who valued design and aesthetics, but they also wanted their day to feel relaxed and natural. They didn’t want their wedding to feel overly staged, but rather for everything to flow seamlessly, creating an inviting atmosphere for their guests to enjoy. We focused on florals that felt lush and abundant, but with an understated elegance that didn’t overwhelm the setting.

The colour palette we settled on was a beautiful mix of muted modern pastels—soft peaches, blush pinks, buttery yellows, and delicate mauves, with touches of greenery to add depth. This palette felt perfectly at home at Pelham House, complementing both the Georgian architecture and the stunning summer gardens without clashing or feeling out of place.

Designing a Showstopping Ceremony Backdrop in the Goring Room

For Alex and Jack’s ceremony at Pelham House Lewes, we designed a stunning, modern floral installation that framed the iconic window in the Goring Room. We opted for a more contemporary design, using Perspex plinths topped with floral meadows. These meadows were carefully arranged at varying heights to create depth and interest, drawing the eye toward the couple as they exchanged their vows.

The floral meadows were composed of luxurious blooms in the couple’s chosen palette of muted pastels—think soft pinks, peaches, layered with peach tones and pops of periwinkle and powder blue, with touches of mauve and delicate greenery. The use of these colours, paired with the modern design of the Perspex plinths, created a breath-taking focal point that was both abundant and sophisticated, complementing the Goring Room’s timeless elegance.

What made this design particularly special was its versatility. After the ceremony, we repurposed the floral meadows by placing them on tall metal frames in the centre of each table during the wedding breakfast. This clever reuse of florals not only maximised the couple’s floral budget but also created a dramatic transformation when guests entered the reception space. The tall floral meadows on the tables added height and a sense of grandeur, making the reception feel both luxurious and intimate—a true “gasp moment” for their guests.

Repurposing Florals for a Stunning Wedding Breakfast at Pelham House Lewes

One of the things I always love to do for my couples is find creative ways to repurpose florals throughout the day. This not only helps to make the most of the floral budget but also allows the couple and their guests to enjoy the flowers in multiple settings.

In Alex and Jack’s case, repurposing the floral meadows from their ceremony backdrop to their wedding breakfast tables was a perfect way to ensure the florals were enjoyed throughout the day. Pelham House’s Goring Room, with its large windows and modern design, provided the perfect setting for this transformation. The floral meadows, now sitting on sleek metal frames, added height and elegance to each table, while the pastel tones created a cohesive, romantic atmosphere.

The soft colours and organic arrangements brought a fresh, inviting energy to the reception space, making the entire day feel cohesive and beautifully designed. It was the perfect balance of contemporary design and romantic abundance, and the guests were visibly impressed when they entered the room.

Pelham House, with its stunning mix of historic charm and modern sophistication, provided the perfect canvas for their wedding. It’s a venue that attracts couples who appreciate elegance and design but also want their day to feel relaxed and natural.
